Stop Snoring Exercises – One Way to a Quieter Nights Sleep
There are many products, methods and procedures that aim to stop snoring problems, some of them relatively inexpensive, and some of them costly. When looking at these options, do not rule out something as simple as exercising. Exercising has proven to be effective in many snoring sufferers.
To see how exercising can be a cure for someones snoring problem, a brief recap on why people snore is in order. Snoring is caused when the airway becomes restricted or obstructed, typically during sleep. The reasons for this obstruction can be weak palate and throat tissues, obesity, or positioning of the tongue and other parts of the body. Obesity has been cited as a major contributer to a person snoring.
General Exercising to Reduce Snoring
Since obesity is already known as a major cause of snoring, it makes sense that if you are over weight, losing some pounds will in turn reduce the chance you will snore. Weight loss is much easier if a sensible diet is accompanied with an exercise program.
Exercising to lose weight will not only help eliminate a snoring problem, it will also result in an overall healthier you. So make exercise part of your daily routine. A healthy body tends to sleep more restfully.
Exercises Targeting Specific Causes of Snoring
Just like general exercises tone the body and strengthen the muscles, there are specific exercises to tone and strengthen parts of the body that cause you to snore. Exercising the throat muscles can help them resist collapsing while sleeping. Exercising the tongue can help keep it from rolling back and obstructing the airway. There are many exercises that have been developed with the snorer, or the obstructive sleep apnea sufferer, in mind.
Many of the exercises are identical to what a trained singer will do to keep their voice in peak condition. For example, try this:
What did you feel? Done properly, this is a great exercise to strengthen your tongue and palate.
If exercise seems to be a good option to stop your snoring, I highly recommend you get Christian Goodman’s Stop Snoring Exercise Program. This book contains 24 different exercises you can do to stop snoring, but you will not have to do them all. Christian will help you determine which body parts are responsible for you snoring, and then develop an exercise program to target those body parts.
Don’t discount something as simple as exercise as the cure for your snoring…it is highly likely that you can succeed with this natural snoring cure.
Until next time,
Sleep well!
